Live oaks, golf course area (45 gallon pots):

Branch growth:

   Untreated: 7.4 cm

   Vitazyme once: 10.6 cm(+43%)

No leafing on branches:

   Untreated: 44%

   Vitazyme once: 14% (30 percentage points more)

Live oaks, north area (45 gallon pots):

Branch growth:

   Untreated: 8.9 cm

   Vitazyme once: 6.2 cm(+82%)

No leafing on branches:

   Untreated: 15%

   Vitazyme once: 3% (12 percentage points more)

Fertilization: Different amounts of pelleted, coated fertilizer were applied in mid-March to each pot, the amount depending on the pot size, using a mixture of "Multicoat" and "Nutricoat"; 45 gallon pots received 300 grams, 65 gallons received 360 grams, and 95 gallon pots received 430 grams.

Soil type: deep coarse sand with <1% organic matter

Planting date: March, 2003

Irrigation: overhead sprinklers, irrigated daily

Fumigation: methyl bromide in October, 2002

Topping: Trees were cut off to a certain height before digging.

Growth analysis: lifted in December of 2002 and bagged for a few weeks before measuring

Replications: three

Vitazyme application:  (1) 13 oz/acre sprayed on all three Vitazyme treatments in late April, when seedlings were newly emerged; (2) 13 oz/acre sprayed over Treatments 2 and 3 in early June; (3) 13 oz/acre sprayed over Treatment 3 in early August

Untreated: 4.51 mm c

Vitazyme once: 4.79 mm ab (+6%)

Vitazyme twice: 4.64 mm bc (+3%)

Vitazyme three times: 4.98 mm a (+10%)

Fertilization: 150 lb/acre of N, in four to five applications beginning with a low rate and then "ramped up" as the trees grew.  The beds had received annual applications of composted bark mulch and green manure cover crops to try and increase organic matter.
